BROWARD COUNTY, FL -- Port Everglades received the 2022 Overall Award of Communications Excellence for Social/Web-Based Media from American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) this week during the organization's annual meeting in Orlando. Port Everglades won the award for its strategic communications campaign announcing the arrival of the world's largest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean International's Wonder of the Seas.

Port Everglades seized the opportunity of Wonder's arrival to showcase its large-ship accommodations and educate the community about a major port activity. The Port's Facebook Live broadcast of the ship's evening arrival garnered tens of thousands of social media views, kudos from community stakeholders and media coverage valued at nearly $600,000.

"Port Everglades is a world-class port with an outstanding external affairs and cruise services team, and they worked as a team to maximize this opportunity," said Port Everglades Chief Executive and Port Director Jonathan Daniels. "At Port Everglades, it's a top priority of ours to help support and celebrate our trade, cruise and energy customers. We were glad to work in tandem with Royal Caribbean International on this project."

AAPA is a seaport trade association that represents more than 130 public port authorities in the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean and Latin America. During its annual conference, Daniels was re-elected to AAPA's governing board overseeing U.S. South Atlantic Ports.
