BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Nationally recognized cruise travel magazine Porthole has selected Port Everglades for its “2013 Editor-in-Chief Award for Best Domestic Departure Port.”
"For decades, Port Everglades has been the premier departure port for cruisers traveling from South Florida to anywhere in the world," says Porthole Cruise Magazine's Editor-in-Chief Bill Panoff. "Port Everglades is a favorite with Porthole readers and savvy travelers. I've always had a great experience there."
Porthole’s Editor-in-Chief Awards are presented to companies in the cruise and travel industry that have gone above and beyond in terms of service, quality, and excellence. The awards are announced in the February 2013 issue of Porthole Cruise Magazine, as well as online at www.porthole.com and throughout Porthole’s social media sites.
“This is a real honor because Porthole has its pulse on the cruise industry, and Bill knows that cruise ports are constantly challenged with providing state-of-the-art facilities that can keep pace with the high standards of the cruise lines and their guests,” says Port Everglades Chief Executive & Port Director Steven Cernak.
Port Everglades, already the homeport for the world’s largest cruise ships, recently completed a $54 million construction project to fully renovate, expand and update four cruise terminals. The enhancements allow for a seamless “curbside-to-ship” guest experience with expanded check-in and baggage claim areas, covered walkways, streamlined transportation routing and bright interiors.
Future growth at Port Everglades will include expanding and modernizing Cruise Terminal 4 and extending the adjacent berth by 250 feet to accommodate longer cruise ships. Construction for the Cruise Terminal 4 renovation and berth expansion are part of the Port’s five-year capital improvement plan and anticipated to be complete by 2016.
