Port Bypass Road
Broward County is constructing a Bypass Road through Port Everglades to facilitate public access from State Road 84 and US-1 to the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center and its new hotel, both currently under construction, and to reduce traffic congestion on the adjacent segments of US-1 and SE 17th Street. The project includes a new two-lane road with security fencing, a bridge with a barrier wall, a roundabout to facilitate port traffic movement, relocated security checkpoint, lighting, traffic signals, security and communications systems, and signage and pavement markings. Construction is expected to be completed by Fall of 2025.

Traffic Pattern Affecting U-turn to Miami Road
The U-turn on eastbound Spangler Blvd./State Road 84 is closed before Security Checkpoint 2. This traffic pattern change during construction was approved by the Florida Department of Transportation.
Scheduled Lane Closures
Through July 4, 2025: Expect traffic lane shifts due to lane closures from 9AM to 5PM along Spangler Blvd. as construction on the Port Bypass Road continues. Bi-directional traffic will be maintained.
Through late August 2025: The lanes just beyond Security Checkpoint 2 at State Road 84/Spangler Blvd. are reduced to one lane eastbound and one lane westbound for the construction of the new Security Checkpoint 2.
Intermittent Lane Closures
Daytime
- Temporary lane closures throughout the day affecting one lane in each direction
Lane Shifting Through July 2025
A traffic change for westbound Spangler Blvd. is planned for implementation as of May 22, 2025, in which the westbound lane will shift north to go under the new bridge. Also, the southbound lane of the Eisenhower Blvd frontage road will shift west to the other side of the newly constructed barrier wall; the northbound lane will remain on the east side between the new barrier walls.
Lane Shifting/Closing Through Summer 2025
A traffic diversion along Spangler Blvd has been implemented with traffic lanes diverted to the south of the existing roadway.
Two single lanes now provide two-way traffic between Belcher Road to the west and the Port ID Office to the east.
- Stripping was installed to indicate the new travel lanes.
- This new traffic pattern will remain in place until summer of 2025.
- Limited space will be provided for tankers waiting to enter the fuel farms.
- Inside lane of the eastbound roadway will serve as a standing area for fuel trucks in que to enter the fuel terminals.
- A U-Turn has been added at SE 14th Ave to facilitate tanker movements.
Re-Routes Until Further Notice
- Truck traffic accessing the asphalt and petroleum terminals located along SE 20th Street in Northport will be re-routed through the Marshalling Yard. VIEW MAP
