FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Broward County’s Port Everglades has been awarded $30.75 million through the Maritime Administration (MARAD)’s Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP) in an announcement made today by U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy. The grant is part of a $498 million federal investment to modernize the nation’s ports and help secure America’s maritime dominance by bolstering critical supply chain gateways. Funding is being provided to a total of 35 projects across 19 states.

“The strength of our nation’s economy is directly tied to the state of our ports,” Duffy said. “This nearly half-billion-dollar investment will deliver critical upgrades to ports across America so we can enhance supply chains, lower shipping costs, and create good-paying jobs for hardworking Americans. Under President Trump, America’s maritime dominance is coming back stronger than ever.”

The infrastructure award will be used to facilitate relocation of a structural bulkhead and widen the slip to 450 feet. Project improvements would allow the port to accommodate significantly larger, more economical vessels such as the Aframax class. This will further strengthen the port’s resilience and enhance safety while maintaining the port’s critical fuel operations during severe weather.

“The port is greatly appreciative to have received our full funding request for the Slip 1 Expansion Project,” said Port Everglades CEO and Port Director Joseph Morris. “The Broward County Board of County Commissioners and the port remain committed to ensuring our energy dominance in Florida and globally as part of the port’s strategic Master/Vision Plan.”

The total public-private project is projected to cost $184.5 million and take three to four years to complete with Phase 1 construction scheduled to begin in 2028. Access Port Everglades’ project details.
